The Story of Clearlake Roads.
In 2016, Clearlake residents passed Measure V by a tight margin, creating a sales tax with proceeds that go only to road construction an maintenance.
With construction costs rising, the Clearlake City Council explored a financing options to allow for a more rapid deployment of new asphalt. In 2022, our council locked in a historically low interest rate, and got to work planning the largest road project in Clearlake’s history.
By the end of 2024, the city will have resurfaced more than 53 miles of roadway, 42% of the publicly-owned roads in the city.

Clearlake has 1xx miles of roadway, and when the city was founded in 1980, much of those roads were dirt or heavily deteriorated. The city also have dozens of miles of private roads mixed in, complicating concerns from residents.

Clearlake’s road surfaces have been rapidly improving. In fact, of the paved roads in Lake County, our city ranks as the highest. This only measures paved roads, so while it’s not a full representative of Clearlake’s road network, it demonstrates that the paving and maintenance work by the city has been effective.

03/18/2021 - Appropriated Funding for Traffic Signal Work and the Airport Road Project
6/3/2021 - Council awards contract for Environmental Services for the Dam Road Roundabout Project
7/15/2021 - Council approves contract for design services for the Dam Road Extension and South Center Drive Project
4/12/2022 - Council rejects bids for the 2nd and Modoc road improvement project and authorizes re-bid
